Meta has just launched a new app intended to be Twitter’s alternative called Threads. But how is it different from Twitter? The concept is in fact very similar to how Twitter works, with quick notes people can post, like and reply to. However, since it is fresh out of the oven, there are some planned features such as audio posts or long video posting capabilities that are not available yet. The app doesn’t support ads either, so this might be something to consider if you’re planning to do paid efforts.
Threads is completely tied to Instagram so in order to join, users need to have an Instagram account first. Once you have that checked, you can log in to Threads app with your Instagram credentials. And when you join, you will be able to import the accounts you follow to Threads.
It is currently available for iOS and Android and with just hours within it’s launch, it already had more than 10 million active users. In fact, it has now surpassed the 100 million users milestone.
On the downside, the app has some other limitations like:
- Not full support for the web version
- There is still no way to see users’ like posts
- Post editing
- No DM’s
- Not a ‘following’ timeline
- You can’t search for trending topics. You can only search users to follow
- The accessibility features are not fully fleshed out
So is it worth it joining the app? As digital nerds, we think it’s a good idea to be there and watch out for what’s new, and to also start building a strong community there with the followers you’ve already earned on Instagram. This doesn’t mean you need to stop using Twitter, but Threads could definitely be a good channel to capture a different audience in a different format and to capitalize on your Instagram community.
